Fenelle's sharpened der skills since the SPECTRA gauntlet, having taken some lessons and notes from what dee has learned there. It's been a valuable experience, just like the battle against jayden cross himself as the avatar of Chien-Pao. While dee still deems SPECTRA itself a bit above der current expertise, as dee's lacking severely in practice - practice that would come with the looming war - it's ... a possibility. A feeling that dee can't rest upon.

Dee nods at der assigned partner for this training session, with der Grimmsnarl by der side as ever. He's learned a few new tricks since then - maybe leaving theatrics at least on the surface. A Rotom tablet floats next to dem as well, who'd translate der signs into text and robotic speech.

"Let's have a good session. I personally favour battling against Wo-Chien, but I'm open to your preference, too."

A few of her Rocket friends were starting to get suspicious. At least, that’s what her paranoia told her. Lately, she’d been avoiding missions like the plague. She was doing just shitty enough to be written off the big stuff but not bad enough to draw attention.

Which was way harder than it sounded. Feigning incompetence was a carefully orchestrated dance, and she’d never actually gone to ballet. Just told her dad that she did.

So, when the Project Tower stuff dropped, the redhead quickly volunteered. This training stuff probably wouldn't actually hurt anybody. And it was easy to slip on a mask. She wore one every day.

A hand rose in greeting to her partner. Any thoughts of a verbal follow-up ended as the sign language began. Madd settled for an awkward nod. Hopefully, this doesn’t impact communication too much. As the choice is laid out before them, the redhead chews at her cheek. It was either going up against Fiorelli’s begrudging escargot or fighting the laser eyes bird.

During the pause, Yakuza moves to introduce himself to the Grimmsnarl. He offers up a beefy fist for a bump.
“Sure.” His trainer finally says with a shrug. “I can handle a slug.”

At least the bug couldn’t fly.

That stuff was annoying.

Underboss Fiorelli appears indifferent to your choice, but steps forward all the same. Within moments she releases Wo-Chien onto the battlefield. [break][break]

Vines and leaves cascade from its snail-like shell, which gleams with a mysterious, earthy luster. Its ochre eyes convey a sinister intelligence as it watches both you and your Pokémon. After taking stock of its opponent, Wo-Chien begins the battle — not with a bombastic assault, but by opening its slime-coated mouth to release POISON GAS onto the field. [break][break]

Grimmsnarl acknowledges Yakuza first with a nod - expecting that this Obstagoon would be similiar to Fen's sibling's, a silent body guard type. However, the fist bump catches him off-guard - he looks at the raised fist for a moment, puzzled, before strands of his hair move to bump against it with a puzzled expression. (Ever since joining Fenelle, most comraderies were shown in battle and blood.)

Fenelle nods at Madd's agreement, even if there's also a vague frown. "It's best not to underestimate Wo-Chien, or any legendary opponent for that matter." But there's not much room for more chatter as Underboss Fiorelli releases her patron onto the field.

Grimmsnarl steps forward, bracing himself. But there's no big, flashy attack - just an opened mouth, and. Dee doesn't command him as he briefly looks at his battle partner for the day, pointing at Wo-Chien before lurging forward for an attack.

The Rocket Grunt in the meanwhile merely seems to watch as the battle unfolds, covering der lower face with der sleeve so they wouldn't breathe in too much of the toxins.

With the fist bump complete, the Obstagoon jerks his hand back. His clawed hands open in a firework facsimile: BOOM. It’s hard to resist the shining grin. If he notices the Grimmsnarl’s confusion, he shows no signs. Instead, his crimson eyes are fixed fully on the snail.

At Fenelle’s cautionary statement, Madd lifts her shoulder in a shrug.”I figured you might want a pep talk.” Her breath escapes in a sigh. “We’re screwed either way.” She’d seen what Fiorelli and Mint could do. As the older woman steps onto the field, Madeline suddenly feels self-conscious. There’s a self-assurance in this woman that’s tough to match.

As the gas flows onto the field, the redhead frowns. There’s no way she’s getting anywhere near that stuff, and she doesn’t think Yakky should either. Her lips press into a thoughtful line. Yakuza looks to his trainer for confirmation. A calming breath heralds her order, “Ice Beam!”

Though the toxic miasma proves to be an unavoidable hindrance, your offensive approach shows your underlying cunning: to finish this swiftly before the poison can completely overtake your Pokémon. [break][break]

Unfortunately for you, Wo-Chien is quick to protect itself. It erects a SPIKY SHIELD of sorts, with wooden stakes suddenly jutting out from its shell and even the surrounding ground to act as a barrier against any oncoming attack. However, a perceptive trainer might notice a fleeting moment of opportunity after Wo-Chien lowers its shield but before it can react or continue with an attack itself.

Grimmsnarl indeed is confused by the Obstagoon's doing, however, the other pokémon doesn't seem keen on elaborating, so he quickly focuses on the battle and Wo-Chien.

Fenelle looks similiarly puzzled at the other's odd mix of optimism quickly followed by pessimism and a shrug-attitude. "Only one way to find out," dee returns in signing, translated by the Rotom tablets electric-charged speech. Dee sees the other going for a ranged attempt, something that Grimmsnarl is bad at - even if he also sometimes appears to be bad at melee, too, to come back with a vengeance.

They've mostly left the acts behind, but some genuine outburts of frustrations are still, indeed, possible.

Grimmsnarl doesn't manage to stop his Bite attack in time, already finding himself injured by the snail's defenses and toxins. Still, his grimm expression is as ever, and he wouldn't budge down so quickly. For a moment, he believes to see an opening - briefly looking at the Obstagoon, he lurges forward once more, trying to go for a Spirit Break now to create an opportunity for the other - possibly.

“Guess so.” Fortune favors idiots, right? Sure, that’s not how it goes, but that’s what it implies. At least to her, anyway.

Behind her back, the taller of the two crosses her fingers. The bright light of the Ice BeamThe redhead hisses as the stakes erupt. The ice beam bounces off the shield in an explosion of frost and snowflakes. The poisonous fog rolls closer. Yakuza goes so far as to try and hold his breath.

But—even if she isn’t a battler—she spots the opening. For a second, she debates on following up with another Ice Beam. But the other person’s Grimmsnarl was in the way. A lot of the badger’s attacks would be like bee stings to the detritus slug. But a fighting move could do the trick.

Madd gestured Yakuza forward with a determined expression. “Get in close and use Cross Chop!” With a bobble-headed nod, the dark type moved to close the gap.

Maybe this would wipe the smug look off the overgrown escargot’s face.

Before you leave, she also suggests that you seek out bryan delarosa for added combat instruction. Beast Delarosa is known to be quite merciless on the battlefield, after all.
